UPDATE: Fall 2019 Harvesting Transition
September 27, 2019
The Salinas Valley growing season is entering its final stretch before transitioning south to the Arizona/California desert growing regions. Expect prices to fluctuate during the months of October and November.
High September temperatures increased growth in the Salinas and Santa Maria regions; both seasons are now expected to end approximately two weeks earlier than scheduled
Expect quality issues to decrease yields and create supply challenges over the next several weeks
Markets will begin to rapidly fluctuate the week of October 7, as California’s San Joaquin Valley (Huron growing district) harvest will not ramp up until the week of October 14
Recent poor weather conditions in the Arizona desert area will more than likely delay production, adding more pressure to the November market
