FROM THE FIELDS: MORE DESERT RAIN

November 18, 2025

The Arizona and California growing regions received another round of isolated showers last night and will see off-and-on showers this morning, with occasional thunderstorms. Most areas recorded less than .10” but other areas received over .25”, and some night crews had to cancel harvest operations. There are a few crews on standby this morning as working conditions are assessed. Those who proceed with harvesting may encounter delays due to the muddy conditions.

Another low-pressure system could bring more showers Friday through Saturday, although confidence in the current forecast is low at this point. Growers/suppliers will nonetheless make adjustments and pack ahead of any possible rain to cover orders.

Markon inspectors will continue to monitor field conditions and quality challenges that are likely to develop, such as:

  • Bottom rot
  • Dirt/mud
  • Increased mildew pressure
  • Pin rot in broccoli
  • Premature pinking in commodity and value-added items
  • Rib blight
  • Shortened shelf-life potential
