UPDATE: TOMATOES – CRITICALLY LOW ROUND TOMATO SUPPLIES

April 24, 2026

Round tomato supplies remain extremely limited out of Mexico and Florida. Last Monday’s hailstorm in Mexico continues to limit crossings into Arizona; some growers are reporting up to 40% crop damage.

Rounds

  • Florida
    • The Central Florida season is getting a slow start; production is sporadic
    • The South Florida season will run another couple of weeks
  • Mexico
    • Recent hailstorms have impacted the Central Mexico growing region
    • Some growers are reporting up to 40% crop damage
    • Growers in the Jalisco region of Southern Mexico are expected to start harvesting this weekend

Romas

  • Florida
    • Supplies are tightening in South Florida; most growers will harvest second and third picks next week
    • The Central Florida season is getting underway; expect increased yields in May
  • Mexico
    • Crossings into the U.S. are extremely limited; recent quality has been fair quality at best
    • Growers in the Jalisco region of Southern Mexico have begun light production; volume will increase over the next couple of weeks
    • The Baja season is getting underway

Grape and Cherry

  • Florida
    • Supplies are slowly increasing
    • Markets are starting to ease and will fall further in May
  • Mexico
    • Baja supplies are increasing
    • Sonora production is expected to start in the next few weeks

Summary

  • Rounds remain critically short, driven by a Florida district transition and extremely limited Mexican supplies
  • Markets remain elevated; meaningful availability is not expected until mid-May (potentially into June)
  • Order flexibility is advised
