Iceberg markets are inching up. Green leaf and romaine prices are steady to start this week but poised to rise in the coming days. Markon First Crop (MFC) Green Leaf, Iceberg, and Romaine Lettuces are available in Salinas, California; Markon Best Available (MBA) is being substituted sporadically due to light weights.
Salinas/Santa Maria, California
- Quality ranges from fair to good; insect pressure, internal burn, mildew, and seeder are found in many lots
- Disease pressure, including Impatiens Necrotic Spot Virus (INSV) and Sclerotinia, persists; percentages of impacted heads vary from lot to lot
- Demand is slowly rebounding; iceberg markets are stronger
- Markon QA inspectors continue to work with our grower-shipper partners to select the best lots
Colorado
- Iceberg harvests are ongoing and will continue through mid-September
- Quality is clean with no internal burn or mildew being reported; expect lower weights compared to California product
Mexico (crossing into Texas)
- Production continues year-round; supplies are plentiful

- Quality and yields are below normal due to monsoonal weather conditions
- Peak season for production and quality will resume in October and run through April
Michigan
- Harvests of green leaf, iceberg, and romaine will continue through September
- Supplies are steady with favorable quality
Northeastern Canada and USA
- Harvests of all lettuces are ongoing
- Recent heat followed by rain has limited production; supplies are expected to rebound next week
Huron, California
- Plantings for the short season window (mid- to late October through early to mid-November) are underway
Arizona/California Desert
- Groundwork is ongoing; plantings will begin in the coming weeks for an early to mid-November season start
- Total acreage will be comparable to prior seasons
