UPDATE: TOMATOES

January 19, 2024

Tomato supplies are light due to recent poor weather in Florida and Mexico. Prices are higher. Markon First Crop (MFC) Tomatoes are available.

  • Florida’s recent poor weather has impacted supplies of round, Roma, cherry, and grape tomatoes
    • Rain continued this week and forecast cooler temperatures (Evening lows 40s) this weekend will continue to affect an already light volume crop
    • Smaller sizes of round tomatoes (6x7s) are scarce
    • Expect historically low supplies the month of February due to bloom drops and fewer acres planted
  • Mexico volumes are light from last week’s cold weather/frost conditions
    • Increased demand from East Coast buyers has kept markets higher
    • New crops in Culiacan have good quality
    • Improved weather in Culiacan, Mexico this week (low 90s) will spur fruit growth for end of January harvest
  • Grape and Cherry varieties continue to experience demand exceeds supply with elevated markets
  • Expect continued higher markets over the next week
