UPDATE SUMMARY: WEEK OF JULY 13, 2026

July 16, 2026

Avocados

The Mexican Loca crop is well underway; prices will continue to soften over the next four weeks.

Mexico

  • Although currently limited, large sizes (32- to 40-count supplies) are increasing
  • Small sizes (48- to 70-count stocks) have promotable volume
  • Quality is good; checkerboarding (uneven ripening within a case) has been reported
  • Expect lower markets over the next four weeks

California/Peru

  • Yields will diminish as these seasons wind down through late August
  • Remaining quality is good; checkerboarding (uneven ripening) has been reported
  • Expect stable pricing through the end of both seasons

Blackberries

Supplies are erratic in several major growing regions.

Mexico

  • Supplies are tight due to pruning, which is reducing the vines’ ability to produce more fruit
  • Quality is poor due to humidity
  • Heat-related issues include softness and cell regression (black cells shrink and turn red)
  • Volume should rebound in September
  • Expect markets to remain steady and short

Watsonville

  • The season is expected to begin between July 20-31
  • Quality is excellent
  • Expect markets to remain steady

Pacific Northwest

  • Harvesting has gotten off to a slow start
  • Production is low this week
  • Expect stocks to increase next week

North Carolina

  • This short season will wrap by the end of the month, depending on weather
  • Quality is good
  • Stocks will diminish through the end of the season

Broccoli & Cauliflower

Broccoli and cauliflower markets continue to ease as post-holiday demand remains subdued and summer production expands across East Coast growing regions. Markon First Crop (MFC) Broccoli is available in Salinas, California. Markon Essentials (ESS) Cauliflower is on the market.

Broccoli

  • The Maine season is getting underway, helping meet regional demand and reducing reliance on California and Mexican supplies (into South Texas).
  • Mexican quality ranges from below-average to poor
  • Reported defects include cat-eye, browning, and widespread hollow core
  • Minimal stem rot is being observed
  • California quality ranges from average to good; occasional discoloration and mechanical damage are being reported
  • Markets are expected to continue declining as East Coast production increases and overall supply increases

Cauliflower

  • Salinas and Santa Maria supplies have increased
  • Size continues to trend smaller, with 12- and 16-count cartons accounting for the majority of availability
  • Quality varies by region
    • Santa Maria quality is excellent
    • Salinas growers report occasional bruising and discoloration
  • Prices will weaken as production ramps up across all growing regions

Chile Peppers

California chile pepper production is ramping up. MFC Chile Peppers are available.

United States

  • California’s Central Coast season will begin later this week, starting with Jalapenos; Poblano, Anaheim, and Habanero harvests will follow in a few weeks
  • East Coast production has shifted from Georgia to North Carolina and New Jersey; markets are softer than those on the West Coast
  • Texas volume has declined compared to yields during the spring season, but sporadic harvesting is underway
  • The New Mexico Hatch chile season has started and will ramp up through this week until concluding in September
  • Overall, the domestic chile market will inch down slightly as more product becomes available in California

Mexico

  • Harvesting out of Western and Northern Mexico has begun and will run through early autumn
  • While most other stocks are ample, anticipate a few weeks of limited Habanero supplies due to poor quality during transitions
  • Jalapenos and tomatillos are the most plentiful and exhibiting solid quality
  • Prices will remain steady through the summer

Grapes

The Mexican grape season has come to an end. California supplies are available through December.

  • ESS Red and Green Seedless Grapes are available
  • MFC Lunch Bunch Grapes are available
  • Pricing will gradually decrease as harvesting continues to ramp up
  • Quality is very good; sugar levels range from 12 to 14% Brix but will increase over the next two weeks
  • Expect sufficient availability and ample supplies this season

Onions

Fresh-run MFC Onions are available in Northern California and New Mexico. New crop Northwest onion seasons will start in a limited manner over the next two to four weeks.

California

  • Northern California supplies have increased following improved weather
  • Stocks are dominated by medium and jumbo sizes; colossal and super colossal sizes are somewhat limited
  • Quality remains good; fresh-run onions will exhibit higher moisture content, thinner skins, and overall shorter shelf life
  • Markon recommends ordering for quick turns and limiting inventories
  • Expect steady prices over the next 7-10 days

New Mexico

  • New Mexico fresh-run onion harvests are continuing
  • Stocks are dominated by medium and jumbo sizes; colossal and super colossal sizes are somewhat limited following abnormally warm weather
  • Growers are packing ahead of rain this weekend to avoid supply disruptions
  • Quality remains good; fresh-run onions will exhibit higher moisture content, thinner skins, and overall shorter shelf life
  • Markon recommends ordering for quick turns and limiting inventories
  • Expect slightly higher prices over the next 7-10 days

Idaho/Oregon

  • The Idaho/Oregon fresh run onion season will begin in a limited manner in mid-August
  • Medium and jumbo sizes will dominate at the start

Potatoes

MFC Potatoes are available in Idaho and Washington. Prices are rising due to strong demand and limited storage supplies. Markon recommends ordering for quick turns and keeping inventory tight due to shorter shelf life. Advanced lead time is encouraged.

  • Norkotah volume is low and will be depleted in the next 7-10 days
  • Burbanks are the main variety; size is leaning heavily to 100-count and smaller along with No. 2 grade stocks
