UPDATE: STRAWBERRIES

March 18, 2022

Strawberry supplies are limited. Production is winding down in Mexico (into South Texas) and Florida; demand is strong. Expect elevated markets for the next 7-10 days

Oxnard/Santa Maria, California

  • Markon First Crop Strawberries are available
  • Strong winds are slowing plant growth and causing quality challenges
  • Demand has increased as the Florida and Mexican seasons are ending
  • Quality is good, although some yields are exhibiting significant signs of bronzing due to strong winds
  • Elevated markets are forecast for the next 7-10 days
  • Expect potential allocations in both growing regions

Coachella, California

  • Supplies are becoming limited
  • Quality is good: green shoulders are being reported in some lots
  • Expect the Coachella growing season to come to an end in two to three weeks due to high temperatures

Salinas/Watsonville

  • Production has begun; volume is expected to steadily increase over the next three to four weeks
  • Quality is good for early season fruit
  • Very limited quantities have begun to ship out of the Salinas/Watsonville growing region

Mexico and Florida

  • Both seasons are ending as high temperatures are causing quality issues
  • Supplies remain available, but quality is diminishing; substandard berries being sold to local markets
