UPDATE: STRAWBERRIES

January 19, 2026

Temperatures have dipped into the mid-30s in Florida strawberry-growing regions. Growers have watered fields to form ice rings around berries, a form of protection for the fruit. Expect demand to exceed supply in Florida for the next 7-10 days.

Santa Maria/Oxnard, California

  • MFC Strawberries are available
  • Strawberries shipping out of California will be brought from Mexico to fill orders as needed; Mexican consolidated berries will have 48 to 72 hours of reduced shelf-life due to transfer times from Mexico to California
  • Quality is good; berries are firm, yet some softness and green shoulders have been reported
  • Size ranges from medium to medium-large (12-14 berries per 1-pound clamshell)
  • Expect markets to remain strong until California’s supply meets demand

Mexico/South Texas

  • Temperatures have remained steady
  • Size is small-medium (22 to 25 berries per 1-pound clamshell)
  • Quality continues to improve weekly as peak season nears
  • Expect elevated pricing and tight stocks as Mexico helps fill orders from Florida and California

Florida

  • Markon First Crop (MFC) Strawberries will not be available for the early part of this week
  • Harvesting has been canceled due to near-freezing overnight temperatures on Sunday, January 18 and Monday, January 19
  • Demand will exceed supply for the rest of this week
  • Quality is good; concerns include white shoulders and light coloring
  • Size is small-medium (18 to 22 berries per 1-pound clamshell)
  • Expect tight supplies and rising markets for the next 7-10 days
