UPDATE: STRAWBERRIES

May 13, 2025

Strawberry supplies are ample; the Salinas/Watsonville region received some rain yesterday, but not enough to decrease fruit quality.

Salinas/Watsonville

  • Markon First Crop (MFC) Strawberries are available
  • New crop berries from Salinas are bigger with better color and flavor then Santa Maria
  • Mild weather with no rain is forecast for the rest of the week
  • Quality is good; light bruising due to large size, good color, and odd shape are occasional issues
  • Size is large (8-12 berries) in 1-pound clamshell packs and medium (18-24 berries) in the 2-pound clamshells
  • Expect markets to inch down

Oxnard/Santa Maria, California

  • MFC Strawberries are available
  • The forecast calls for clear, mild weather for the rest of the week
  • Quality is good; some green shoulders have been reported
  • Size is medium (18-24 berries per 1-pound clamshell)
  • The Oxnard and Santa Maria seasons are past their peaks; volume will start to decline
  • Expect markets to ease
