UPDATE: STRAWBERRIES

Heavy rain fell in Santa Maria and Oxnard, California over the last 48 hours, causing delays and lowering volume. The Mexican season will end sometime next week of March, further tightening industry supplies.

Santa Maria

  • Markon First Crop (MFC) Strawberries are available; packer label may be substituted as needed
  • The region received 1.00 – 1.25” of rain over the past 48 hours
  • Expect loading delays as rain has slowed harvesting crews
  • Quality is fair: pin rot and bruising are predicted
  • Expect markets to increase over the next five days then slowly decline as favorable weather returns
  • Maintaining the cold chain will be vital for shelf-life; Markon recommends ordering for quick turns

Oxnard

  • Markon First Crop (MFC) Strawberries are available; packer label may be substituted as needed
  • The region received .50 – .75” of rain over the past 48 hours
  • Expect loading delays as rain has slowed harvesting crews
  • Quality is fair: pin rot and bruising are predicted
  • Expect markets to increase over the next five days then slowly decline as favorable weather is forecast
  • Maintaining the cold chain will be vital for shelf-life; Markon recommends ordering for quick turns

Mexico (into South Texas)

  • The season will end the week of March 17 sometime the week of March 17
  • Size currently ranges from 18-26 berries per 1-pound clamshell
  • Quality is good; uneven ripening and light bruising have been reported
  • Expect markets to decline as quality worsens

Florida

  • MFC Strawberries are available
  • Supplies have increased; the season will run through mid-April
  • Size currently ranges from 15-22 berries per 1-pound clamshell
  • Quality is improving with ideal weather
  • Expect steady markets through the next two weeks
