UPDATE: SQUASH

August 21, 2024

Yellow squash supplies are tightening due to cool weather. Markets are increasing despite multiple summer growing regions in play. Expect higher prices as demand begins to shift.

East Coast

  • Suppliers are harvesting in the New York and New Jersey growing regions, but rain and cooler weather has decreased production
  • Quality is good despite some rain-related challenges
  • The North Carolina season will start next week
  • Expect lower yellow squash yields due to Tropical Storm Debby

Midwest

  • Yellow squash volume is low; warmer weather will increase volume

Baja, Mexico

  • Yellow squash supplies are tight

California

  • The Santa Maria growing region has seen cooler weather which has reduced yields and delayed transition to their third harvest of the summer season
  • Supply is adequate; the warm weather that is forecast for this weekend will aid growth
  • San Joaquin Valley fields are recovering from extreme heat in July; yields are increasing
