UPDATE: SOUTHERN WINTER STORM ENZO

January 21, 2025

The storm continues to carve a path of snow and ice across southern states from southeast Texas, much of Louisiana, and into Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. Seaports and airport closures are occurring in Texas today and freeways are slow/closed due to historical snowfall totals in some locations, restricting the flow of produce commodities.

  • Snowfall has impacted many of the southern states overnight; totals include
    • Houston 4”
    • New Orleans 1”
    • Lafayette 7”
    • Picayune Mississippi 1.1”
  • More than 47,000 are without power in Texas and some businesses are closed today, including Dimare Fresh
  • Port Freeport, a major shipping container seaport for produce entering Texas has canceled unloading services today, limiting the flow of imported pineapple and melons into the Houston area
  • Produce logistics are hampered across the southern US due to snow and icy weather; expect delays this week
  • The storm will continue to track east over the next few days, having a greater impact on Georgia and Northern Florida
  • Markon will continue to monitor and update as more information becomes available
