A second major winter storm in less than a week is expected to move into the Southern United States beginning Friday, January 23 and persisting through Sunday, January 25. The system is expected to bring freezing rain and snow, and may cause road closures and shipment delays over the weekend.
- Snow and freezing rain are expected to hit Oklahoma, Texas, Western Tennessee, and Northern Mississippi beginning Friday, January 23
- The storm is forecast to move east and impact Alabama, Georgia, and the Carolinas through Sunday, January 25
- Shipping delays are likely due to dangerous road conditions, snow, and ice
- In addition to transportation challenges, the extended weather forecast shows extremely low temperatures re-entering primary winter growing regions in Central Florida (34- 39°F overnight lows) and South Florida (40- 50°F overnight lows) on Tuesday, January 27
- This will impact bell peppers, cabbage, celery, cucumbers, lettuces, oranges, squash, strawberries, tomatoes, and watermelon
