UPDATE: SOUTH TEXAS BORDER DELAYS

October 29, 2025

The South Texas border (with Mexico) is experiencing long delays due to continued roadblocks organized by the Farmers Union on the Mexican side of the border in protest of low hourly wages. These delays are impacting strawberries and mixed berries crossing into the United States.

  • Trucks heading towards the Pharr International Bridge in McAllen, Texas are experiencing 10 to 20-hour wait times (normal crossing time is 1 to 2 hours)
  • Over 1.28 billion pounds of fresh produce, including limes, tomatoes, bell peppers, chiles, melons, and carrots, cross the Texas/Mexico border each year
  • The California and Arizona border crossings with Mexico are not impacted currently
  • Expect ongoing delays with strawberry and mixed berry orders loading in Texas; Markon will continue to update as more information becomes available
