Markon First Crop (MFC) Idaho Burbank Potatoes will ship through next week. Field-run MFC Norkotah Potatoes will enter the market on Monday, August 19.

New Crop Norkotahs

    Idaho

• There will be a split market next week; new crop Norkotah prices will run $3.00-$6.00 higher than those for storage Burbank stocks
• Expect elevated markets through mid-September
• Early season size will be dominated by 60- to 120-count supplies
• U.S. No. 2 pricing will strengthen next week; expect very few defects in new crop potatoes during the early stages of harvesting

 Washington

• New crop harvesting has started in a limited manner; the bulk of production will begin early next week
• Expect great mixer volume

Colorado

• The Colorado new crop season will get underway in early September

Quality

• Minor skinning and excess moisture will be observed in fresh-run potatoes
  • Potatoes release moisture as they cool, causing a white surface mold that is easily brushed off
  • The white mold dissipates as the potatoes dry
