The Arizona/California desert domestic melon season is continuing to ramp up; supplies remain limited, especially honeydews.
Honeydew
- The domestic Arizona/California desert season has started in a light way; Mexican melons will continue shipping as needed
- Demand is exceeding current supply levels due to delayed domestic plantings and increased summer demand
- Size is dominated by five- and six-count melons; eight-count and smaller sizes are extremely tight
- Markon First Crop (MFC) Honeydew Melons remain extremely limited; packer label is being substituted as needed
- Expect limited stocks and elevated markets to persist for at least the next two weeks
Cantaloupe
- Limited Arizona/California MFC Cantaloupe Melons are available; packer label is being substituted as needed
- Supplies remain limited but are slowly increasing; markets are slightly softer
- Size is dominated by 9-count jumbo melons
- Expect steady to lower markets over the next ten days
