Lime supplies are tightening due to crop transition, heavy rains, and rising demand, leading to lower yields, quality challenges, and higher prices. Markon First Crop (MFC) and Markon Essentials (ESS) Limes are available.
Mexico (into South Texas)
- Current crop is reaching peak maturity; ongoing rains are worsening quality concerns and reducing harvest yields
- Quality concerns are increasing, including stylar, oil spotting, skin breakdown, and lighter color due to excessive moisture
- New crop limes are delayed; harvest activity is expected to increase by mid-to-late September
- Medium-size limes (175- to 200-count) dominate availability
- Larger sizes (110-count) remain extremely limited due to early maturity; smaller sizes (230- and 250-count) are also tightening as rains cause fruit to size up
- Lighter border crossings and limited overall volume are tightening supply
- Markets are rising as each new inbound load comes in at a higher cost
- Smaller, high-quality fruit is especially in demand
Colombia
- Packer label limes are available for loading out of Florida; supplies are sufficient
- Sizing is well balanced throughout the crop, with a slight peak in small to mid-size fruit
- Quality remains strong, with mostly clean skin and occasional minor issues like scarring or blanching
- Although it is hurricane season, Colombia is less affected by major storms because of its location outside the core of the hurricane belt
- The country’s mountainous terrain facilitates effective water drainage, preventing excess pooling around the root zone and helping to maintain fruit quality even during heavy rains
