UPDATE: GREEN LEAF, ICEBERG, AND ROMAINE

October 15, 2026

Green leaf, iceberg, and romaine lettuce markets continue to escalate as severe disease pressure and adverse growing conditions significantly reduce supplies. Markon First Crop (MFC) Green Leaf, Iceberg, and Romaine Lettuces are available in Salinas, California. Markon Best Available (MBA) is being substituted as needed due to low weights.

Salinas and Santa Maria, California

  • Disease pressure remains severe, with INSV and Sclerotinia continuing to impact production and reduce yields
  • Quality ranges from fair to good; insect pressure, internal burn, mildew, and seeder are present in many lots
  • Weights remain inconsistent, 30–44 pounds, and are fluctuating by field and harvest date
  • Supplies are expected to remain limited through the end of the Salinas season
  • The Arizona/California desert season is projected to begin in early November, bringing the Salinas season to a close

Huron, California

  • Harvests are underway
  • Weights are averaging 35-45 pounds but should increase as production moves forward
  • Disease pressure is currently much lower than in Salinas
  • Quality is generally clean with good overall appearance

Mexico (crossing into South Texas)

  • Production remains active year-round
  • Current carton weights range from 34-45 pounds

New Mexico

  • Las Cruces production is ongoing
  • Weights are averaging 35-40 pounds
  • Early season rainfall reduced planted romaine acreage and available supplies

South Carolina

  • Harvests are expected to begin the week of October 19
  • Initial production should help supplement West Coast supplies
  • Early reports indicate good quality and favorable growing conditions
