UPDATE: GREEN LEAF, ICEBERG, AND ROMAINE

May 26, 2026

Iceberg markets have reversed course and are escalating as disease pressure intensifies. Green leaf supplies remain limited. Romaine is extremely tight. Expect comparable conditions to persist through mid-June. Markon First Crop (MFC) Green Leaf, Iceberg, and Romaine Lettuces are available in Salinas, California; Markon Best Available (MBA) is being substituted as needed.

  • Overall quality ranges from fair to good
  • Iceberg supplies are tightening due to increased disease pressure; Impatiens Necrotic Spot Virus (INSV) and Sclerotinia are significantly damaging current lots and reducing harvestable acreage
  • Additional challenges include internal burn and mildew pressure, further impacting supply levels
  • Mexican harvests are tapering off as the region enters its low-volume summer season; imports are expected to increase again in the fall
  • Midwest/Michigan production will ramp up in June and continue through the summer
  • Regional programs in the Northeast and Canada are also expected to begin by mid-June
  • Iceberg pricing will rise into early June as disease pressure limits supply levels
  • Green leaf and romaine markets will remain elevated through mid-June
