Expect comparable conditions to persist through mid-June. Markon First Crop (MFC) Green Leaf, Iceberg, and Romaine Lettuces are available in Salinas, California; Markon Best Available (MBA) is being substituted as needed.
- Overall quality ranges from fair to good
- Iceberg supplies are tightening due to increased disease pressure; Impatiens Necrotic Spot Virus (INSV) and Sclerotinia are significantly damaging current lots and reducing harvestable acreage
- Additional challenges include internal burn and mildew pressure, further impacting supply levels
- Mexican harvests are tapering off as the region enters its low-volume summer season; imports are expected to increase again in the fall
- Midwest/Michigan production will ramp up in June and continue through the summer
- Regional programs in the Northeast and Canada are also expected to begin by mid-June
- Iceberg pricing will rise into early June as disease pressure limits supply levels
- Green leaf and romaine markets will remain elevated through mid-June
