Rain is forecast for Monday night through Tuesday afternoon in the Salinas Valley. Already elevated green leaf, iceberg, and romaine markets will skyrocket as most growers will get rained out on Tuesday, further yields through the rest of the week.
- Markon Best Available (MBA) is being substituted due to low weights
- Quality is being challenged in most lots following high temperatures, rain, and lingering humidity
- Bottom rot, fluctuating densities, insect pressure, mildew, ribby frames, and seeder are being reported
- Disease pressure is reducing yields, although not as significantly as in prior seasons
- Markon is working with growers to build inventories ahead of the rain by packing Saturday, Sunday, and Monday morning
- Expect markets to remain elevated through the transition to the Arizona/California desert season in mid-November
