Markets continue to climb in the Salinas Valley amid increasing insect pressure and persistent quality issues. Markon First Crop (MFC) and Ready-Set-Serve (RSS) Brussels Sprouts are limited; packer label is being substituted.
- Supplies are very limited in Monterey County (Salinas Valley) and Santa Barbara County (Santa Maria and Lompoc Valley)
- Prices are higher as recent weather conditions have reduced yields and demand increases leading up to the Thanksgiving pull
- Quality is fair; recent temperature fluctuations and rain have led to excessive seeder (long internal stem) and discoloration in some lots
- Diamondback moth pupa/larvae continue to reduce harvest volumes
- Domestic production in California will run into early December, before growers move south to Mexico
- Expect very high pricing and limited availability through Thanksgiving Holiday
