Mexico’s Normal avocado crop is tightening as growers hold back harvesting to prolong the season until the Loca crop meets maturity standards in mid-July. California and Peruvian stocks will be shipped to help fill the void but will not meet U.S. avocado demand.
Mexico
- Expect extremely limited supplies of the current normal crop as the season winds down
- New Loca crop avocados will not meet maturity standards until mid-July
- Mexico avocado supplies account for 83% of U.S demand
- Size, grade, and country or origin substitutions may be requested to fill orders
- Expect elevated markets and tight supplies through July
California
- Expect low volume as California continues to help fill the void from Mexico
- The California season is past its peak and is expected to wind down in mid-July
- California avocados account for 10% of the U.S demand
- Size and grade substitutions may be requested to fill orders
- Expect elevated markets and tight supplies through July
Peru
- Expect tight yields as supplies begin to arrive on the East Coast
- The Peruvian season will run through August
- Peruvian avocados account for 7% of the U.S demand with most of it being program business
