Prices continue to rise this week, especially for large and jumbo sizes. Markon First Crop (MFC) Asparagus is available out of Baja, Mexico.
Mexico
- Prices are escalating
- Production in Southern Baja and Central Mexico has moved past seasonal peaks; growers are breaking into new, immature lots in the Northern Baja region
- The Northern Baja season will run through early October, followed by fall/winter production in Sonora
- All sizes, especially large and jumbos, will remain limited and higher priced over the next 10 days at a minimum
- Standard and small sizes are most abundant
Peru
- Production out of Northern Peru is declining
- Growers are breaking into new, immature lots in Southern Peru
- Yields are low, limiting supplies shipped into East Coast ports and driving prices higher
- Small- and standard-size stocks dominate shipments
- Quality is fair, but will improve as new crop volume climbs
