The Arizona and California growing regions received less rainfall than anticipated, Saturday, November 15, with estimated rainfall totals for Yuma and Imperial Valley reaching upwards of .25” and just under 1” for the Coachella Valley.
The latest forecast is calling for more rain, Tuesday, November 18, with potential totals reaching .10”-.15” in all desert regions. Markon inspectors will monitor field conditions and quality challenges that could develop such as:
- Bottom rot
- Dirt/mud
- Increased mildew pressure
- Pin rot in broccoli
- Premature pinking in commodity and value-added items
- Shorten shelf-life potential
Markon inspectors will continue to update further as needed. As always, cold chain management throughout the supply chain is critical for maximizing the quality and shelf-life.
