  • The desert region is experiencing its first significant ice event of the season
  • Morning temperatures have dipped into the low to upper 30°s over the past 3 days
  • Icy conditions will continue through at least Saturday, December 16
  • Immediate affects of lettuce ice include:
    • Delayed harvesting and loading delays
    • Dehydration
    • Slowed plant growth
  • Markon inspectors will be monitoring supplies for more long-term effects in the coming days, such as:
    • Epidermal blistering and peeling
    • Potential supply shortages
    • Reduced case weights
    • Yellowing leaves in lettuces and tender leaf items such as arugula
