• Markon First Crop (MFC) lettuce items are limited due to light weights and/or quality challenges; Markon Best Available (MBA) is being substituted as needed
• Growers have been battling soil disease, plant viruses, and abnormal heat over the past two months
• These factors along with recent rain have had significant impact on yields and quality
• Harvesting crews are harvesting fields at a much faster rate due to all the die-off and damaged heads, forcing growers into younger and younger fields
• Lettuce markets are expected to remain tight throughout the remainder of the Salinas season which typically lasts through early-mid November
• Expect MFC lettuce packs to remain limited until the Desert growing season gets underway
