Please click here to view a Markon Live From the Fields video about current iceberg lettuce quality in Huron, California.
- The Salinas and Santa Maria lettuce seasons continue to wind down rapidly due to die-off from disease and plant virus pressure; case weights range from 30 to 42 pounds.
- Production is starting in the Huron, California region and will run for approximately four to five weeks
- Most Huron case weights are expected to be under Markon First Crop specifications, ranging from 35 to 45 pounds, but overall quality and plant health is far better than remaining Salinas and Santa Maria supplies; iceberg lettuce is exhibiting odd shape/ribby shape, sporadic weak tip, and minimal insect pressure
- A limited amount of iceberg is also coming out of Oxnard, California where quality is very good, but case weights ranging from 37 to 45 pounds
- Markon inspectors are monitoring growing conditions, supply levels, and quality, and will update further as any developments arise
