FROM THE FIELDS: WEST COAST RAIN

October 22, 2025

A weak low-pressure system is bringing brief showers and isolated thunderstorms to the Salinas and Santa Maria Valleys this morning. Less than a tenth of an inch is expected in both areas, but the threat of lightning will likely cause safety concerns and delayed harvest times, which could impact production and loading schedules throughout the day.

Clear and dry conditions are expected to return by this afternoon, but another system is forecast to arrive this weekend, bringing an additional tenth to a half inch of rain to the Salinas Valley and up to a quarter inch in Santa Maria.

Markon inspectors continue working closely with suppliers to secure the best product for Markon orders. This latest round of storms, although relatively minor, will compound the quality and shelf-life challenges that have developed from previous rain events in late September and mid-October.
