FROM THE FIELDS: RAIN IN CALIFORNIA SALINAS VALLEY

November 9, 2021

Rain began falling in California’s Salinas Valley last night, November 8, and as of 5:00 AM PST this morning, the Salinas Valley has received a little over an inch of rain. Harvesting delays are being reported due to wet and muddy terrain.  California’s Santa Maria Valley and Huron growing regions have not reported rainfall totals, but will have more information within the next few hours.

Currently we are harvesting lettuce and mixed leaf vegetables out of California’s Northern Growing Regions of Salinas, Santa Maria and Huron.  In addition, new crop harvest has begun in the Desert Growing Regions of Arizona and California.  Tuesday is the slowest loading day of the week (least amount of POs loaded), and we expect to see some delays during loading.  We will report back later today with more information on how the rain may affect harvest and loading of POs.
