Significant harvesting and loading delays will occur through this Wednesday, November 26 in the Arizona/California desert growing region. Most areas received another inch of rain over the weekend bringing the total to 1.87” for the month of November, which normally averages less than .20”.
All desert row crop growers are struggling to harvest in extremely muddy conditions. Apart from the impact on production, rain-related quality and shelf-life challenges will be present in commodity and value-added items such as broccoli, lettuce, and tender leaf for at least the next two weeks.
This week’s forecast calls for a return of warm, dry conditions with temperatures reaching mid-upper 70°s by mid-week.
Markon inspectors will continue to monitor conditions and supply outlook, and will update further as needed.
