FROM THE FIELDS: LIGHT LETTUCE ICE IN THE DESERT REGION

March 8, 2022

The Arizona/California desert region received light lettuce ice for the second consecutive morning today after temperatures dropped to the low-mid 30°s in colder areas. Harvesting delays of up to two hours are being reported; processing and loading delays can also be expected.

Warmer weather is forecast for the next few days, but will likely not be warm enough to spur on the kind of growth that is needed to increase case weights for lettuce items. Expect light weights, tight supplies, and ongoing quality challenges related to all the erratic weather received over the last 5-6 weeks.
