FROM THE FIELDS: DESERT REGION WEATHER

December 7, 2021

The Arizona/California desert growing region experienced unseasonably warm weather throughout most of November and the first week of December. Temperatures in the upper 80s to upper 90s caused some quality challenges, but mostly just increased growth by at least a week.

The season’s first cold fronts will pass through the area this evening and Thursday, December 9, bringing cold wind and a chance for light showers. More significantly, some areas are expected to receive moderate-to-heavy lettuce ice on Saturday, December 11 and Sunday, December 12. Another chance for showers and cold gusty wind is forecast throughout next week.

Markon orders will be packed ahead as needed pending rain and ice forecasts in order to provide 100% fill rate and avoid delays as much as possible. Markon inspectors will be monitoring quality closely and will update further with any developments.
