FROM THE FIELDS: DESERT REGION WEATHER UPDATE

January 24, 2023

The Arizona and California desert growing region is experiencing widespread lettuce ice with morning temperatures dropping to as low as the upper 20°s-to mid-30°s and more lettuce ice events expected throughout the week. Continued harvesting delays of up to three hours with potential loading delays and later-than-normal transfers to the consolidation dock are expected.

Markon inspectors are observing epidermal blister starting to form on iceberg and romaine crops as a result of the latest ice events. We will continue to monitor and update you with the latest as quality challenges develop.
