FROM THE FIELDS: DESERT REGION FIELD CONDITIONS

November 2, 2026

Growers in the Arizona-California desert region have been assessing field conditions this morning after some areas received much more rainfall than anticipated over the weekend. Some have canceled today’s harvests while others are experiencing light-to-moderate production delays.

Although below-normal case weights are expected, lettuce quality and soil health in the desert are far superior compared to remaining Salinas supplies, and Markon expects to start utilizing desert product as early as tomorrow, November 3. With that said, inspectors will monitor the fields closely for any rain-related challenges such as bottom rot, mildew, rib blight, etc., as well as any impacts on young crops or disruptions to planting schedules that could affect the supply situation further into the winter growing season.
