FROM THE FIELDS: DESERT LETTUCE ICE

February 18, 2022

Temperatures in the Arizona/California desert region dipped into the low-to mid-30°s this morning, causing lettuce ice to form. Harvesting delays of up to 2 hours have been reported for row crop vegetables and we may also see loading delays. Forecasts are calling for slight warming over the weekend, before another low pressure system brings a chance for rain on Tuesday, February 22, followed by more widespread lettuce ice later in the week.

Markon is working with suppliers to pack ahead to avoid or minimize any delays or supply disruptions due to weather. Quality and shelf-life will be monitored closely and we will update further as the impact of all the recent and current volatile weather becomes more clear.
