FROM THE FIELDS: SALINAS VALLEY WARMING TREND

September 22, 2021

Temperatures will remain above average in California’s Salinas Valley through the remainder of this week, and into next week. The coastal temperatures will remain at seasonal norms, but inland areas will experience temperatures in 80s to low-to-mid 90s before gradually cooling next week.

Markon inspectors will be watching how the hot and humid conditions will affect leaf and lettuce. Potential quality challenges will be:

  • Bottom Rot
  • Dehydration
  • Fringe burn
  • Growth Cracks
  • Internal burn
  • Mildew pressure
  • Sun-Scalding
