Chile pepper prices remain elevated as supplies of clean product from Western Mexico and South Texas are tight. Markon First Crop Chile Peppers are limited.
Western Mexico
- Jalapeño, Anaheim, serrano, poblano, and tomatillo markets have strengthened over the past three weeks.
- Clean, export-quality product remains limited following rain events during the transition period
- Warm temperatures have contributed to scarring across most pepper varieties, while rain has caused harvest delays and quality challenges in jalapeños and tomatillos
- Expect elevated pricing to continue until production in Sinaloa begins in approximately two weeks
South Texas
- Production in Tamaulipas, Mexico, and the South Texas local program has begun on a limited basis
- Mosaic virus, spread by whiteflies, has contributed to a supply gap following an already challenging transition period, limiting the ability of infected plants to produce peppers with ideal size, color, and shape
- Expect limited availability across most varieties for at least another two weeks, until Sinaloa production begins
- Market prices may fluctuate but are expected to remain elevated over the next couple of weeks
Nogales
- The season is set to begin the first week of December
- Rains across the Sonora and Chihuahua regions have prevented shippers from harvesting earlier
East Coast
- Georgia and North Florida production is winding down
- Anticipate light volumes for another two weeks until the South Florida program kicks off
- Markets are continuing to strengthen
