Fresh-run Markon First Crop (MFC) Onions are available in Northern California and New Mexico. New crop Northwest onion seasons will start in a limited manner over the next two to four weeks.
California
- Northern California supplies have increased following improved weather
- Stocks are dominated by medium and jumbo sizes; colossal and super colossal sizes are somewhat limited
- Quality remains good; fresh-run onions will exhibit higher moisture content, thinner skins, and overall shorter shelf life
- Markon recommends ordering for quick turns and limiting inventories
- Expect steady prices over the next 7-10 days
New Mexico
- New Mexico fresh-run onion harvests are continuing
- Stocks are dominated by medium and jumbo sizes; colossal and super colossal sizes are somewhat limited following abnormally warm weather
- Growers are packing ahead of rain this weekend to avoid supply disruptions
- Quality remains good; fresh-run onions will exhibit higher moisture content, thinner skins, and overall shorter shelf life
- Markon recommends ordering for quick turns and limiting inventories
- Expect slightly higher prices over the next 7-10 days
Washington
- Red, yellow, and white storage supplies been depleted
- Growers are transferring onions from California to fill orders
- New crop supplies are expected to be available the week of July 27; the crop will be dominated by medium and jumbo sizes at the start
Idaho/Oregon
- The Idaho/Oregon fresh run onion season will begin in a limited manner in mid-August
- Medium and jumbo sizes will dominate at the start
