Central and South Florida experienced near-freezing temperatures over the weekend, while North Florida and the Panhandle experienced snow and frost.
Florida
- Today’s South Florida forecast calls for temperatures in the mid-60s and a low of 50 degrees
- The rest of the week will be in the low 70s, slowly increasing to 80 degrees by this weekend
- Nighttime lows will be in the 65-degree range
- No major damage is expected
- Cabbage: Light frost with no concerns for quality
- Cucumbers: Currently no domestic production
- Bell Peppers: Low temperatures will significantly slow production, lowering volume
- Squash: Cold weather will tighten supplies
- Tomatoes: The cold front may cause bloom drop that could limit supplies into February
- Lettuces: Supplies will tighten with no long-term effects
- Celery: Expect lower volume
- Strawberries: Yields will decrease, but there aren’t any major concerns for the overall crop
- Oranges: No issues in these regions
- Expect higher prices over the next week as cold weather slows overall maturity
