UPDATE: COLD WEATHER

Central and South Florida experienced near-freezing temperatures over the weekend, while North Florida and the Panhandle experienced snow and frost.

Florida

  • Today’s South Florida forecast calls for temperatures in the mid-60s and a low of 50 degrees
    • The rest of the week will be in the low 70s, slowly increasing to 80 degrees by this weekend
    • Nighttime lows will be in the 65-degree range
  • No major damage is expected
    • Cabbage: Light frost with no concerns for quality
    • Cucumbers: Currently no domestic production
    • Bell Peppers: Low temperatures will significantly slow production, lowering volume
    • Squash: Cold weather will tighten supplies
    • Tomatoes: The cold front may cause bloom drop that could limit supplies into February
    • Lettuces: Supplies will tighten with no long-term effects
    • Celery: Expect lower volume
    • Strawberries: Yields will decrease, but there aren’t any major concerns for the overall crop
    • Oranges: No issues in these regions
  • Expect higher prices over the next week as cold weather slows overall maturity
