UPDATE: STRINGLESS SUGAR SNAP PEAS

October 17, 2025

Prices are elevated and supplies are extremely limited industrywide due to poor quality caused by inclement weather.

California – Salinas and Santa Maria Valleys

  • Markon First Crop (MFC) Sugar Snap Peas are extremely limited out of California; packer label is being substituted
  • Temperature fluctuations, rain, and hail have all contributed to the very poor quality of domestically grown sugar snap peas
  • Small size, scarring, discoloration, water damage, and pitting are prevalent, severely reducing yields to extreme lows
  • Expect very limited domestic supplies to persist until the Northern California season wraps up in early December

Imports – Northern Mexico, Guatemala, and Peru

  • Supplies are tight; demand has shifted to imports as quality and volume have deteriorated domestically
  • Some imported stringed varieties are more readily available than stringless
  • Quality is marginally better in Peruvian, Mexican, and Guatemalan stocks
  • Expect limited availability and higher pricing until imported volume begins to increase in the next four to six weeks
