FROM THE FIELDS: LETTUCE ICE IN THE DESERT REGION

February 25, 2022

Temperatures dipped into the low 30°s causing widespread lettuce ice this morning, February 25, in the Arizona/California desert region.

  • We are predicting a two- to three-hour harvesting delay this morning, which will increase loading times this afternoon/evening
  • Weather forecasts call for lettuce ice through Saturday, February 26, before temperatures begin to warm next week
  • This latest freeze event will cause prolonged quality problems, lower yields, and possibly supply challenges through the end of the desert growing season

Markon inspectors will continue to monitor closely and update with the latest on field conditions and quality outlook.
