Ready-Set-Serve (RSS) Cauliflower items are currently not available; packer brand is being substituted as needed.
Markon inspectors are observing elevated levels of Diamondback moth pressure in value-added cauliflower raw product supplies. Specifically, larvae, pupae, and larval damage are present throughout the heads where harvesting crews cannot effectively detect and avoid them. In addition, many lots are exhibiting discoloration.
Markon anticipates a reduction in the number of insects after the wash process but expects to still see some in finished packs. This week’s heat wave may prolong the current pest challenge for two weeks or longer. Markon inspectors are working with our supplier to get back into RSS brand as soon as possible.
The Diamondback moth has been a significant challenge for California growers over the past few years. Unseasonably warm winters have prevented a kill step, limiting effective treatments and giving these pests the ability to build resistance to available sprays.
