Broccoli and Cauliflower

  • Cold weather and rainy conditions have slowed growth and affected quality, reducing yields; pin rot, mildew, and decay may be present in finished broccoli packs due to rain
  • Mexican broccoli supplies (into South Texas) are adequate; markets are slightly lower
  • Expect elevated prices and limited supplies through the month   

Green Onions

  • Rain and short days are minimizing harvesting in Northern Mexico   
  • Cold weather continues to hinder plant maturity, reducing supply levels
  • The market is expected to rise into next month  

Green Leaf, Iceberg, and Romaine

  • Harvesting crews are working limited hours this week and next
  • Today’s rain and muddy field conditions will curtail harvesting, further tightening inventories
  • November’s rainy weather and recent low temperatures have also reduced yields; epidermal blistering/peeling and decay are the main quality issues
  • Expect limited stocks and climbing prices


  • New crop Mexican supplies are beginning to trickle into Nogales, Arizona and McAllen, Texas
  • Florida stocks remain limited; weather-related quality issues are a concern
  • Contract trigger levels remain in effect for the week of December 30
  • Expect increased stocks and lower prices for the week of January 6
