UPDATE: Green Leaf, Iceberg, and Romaine
July 02, 2019
Green leaf and romaine stocks are increasing in California’s Salinas Valley; prices are beginning to ease. Iceberg supplies remain limited; the market is elevated.
Expect green leaf and romaine prices to begin their market decline as early as this week, while the iceberg market will descend over the next week or two
A significant heat spike in early June stunted growth and caused uneven size/maturity in many iceberg crops
Iceberg growers must harvest more acres to meet weight requirements and processor demand
This week’s lower yields are expected to keep the market elevated
Quality is very good
Regional growing areas (i.e. Colorado and Eastern Canada) will begin production over the next several weeks, increasing overall volume
