FROM THE FIELDS: SANTA MARIA STRAWBERRIES
April 16, 2020
The Oxnard, California season is winding down
Supplies of Markon First Crop Strawberries are available out of Santa Maria, California
Cold temperatures, frost, and rain slowed plant growth in March and early April, delaying peak volume, but yields are expected to increase by early to mid-May for Mother’s Day
Quality issues such as decay, mildew, mold, and water damage are reducing yields as crews must cull plants to remove defects
Temperatures are expected to rise into the upper 60s and low 70s over the next 10 days
