FROM THE FIELDS: Lettuce Quality

May 17, 2019

The Salinas Valley is currently experiencing a rare wet weather pattern that will persist through the middle of next week. Lettuce growers have been facing quality challenges, including internal burn and mildew, due to this extended wet, humid weather pattern. Expect these quality problems, as well as premature pinking and shortened shelf-life, for the next three weeks. Increased insect pressure may also occur.

The below pictures illustrate some of the current challenges caused by this inclement weather.
