FROM THE FIELDS: California Strawberries
August 29, 2019
The Watsonville/Salinas season is winding down
Above-normal temperatures and humid conditions have been recorded throughout August, creating quality concerns
Growers are keeping crops watered and picking on tighter schedules to limit quality issues
Fall supplies are limited, but will increase steadily as September progresses
Emerging fall crop berries are exhibiting good size and color, but flavor is not as sweet as Watsonville fruit
Summer crop varieties are declining in quality and size
