August 05, 2016
Markon is closely monitoring a public health advisory from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) regarding a recent surge in reported illnesses due to the parasite Cyclospora. An investigation to determine a common source of the illnesses is under way, however at this time a specific product has not been identified and the investigation is ongoing.
What we know:
- There have been 72 cases of Cyclospora infections reported in Texas in 2016
- 55 of the 72 cases were reported in the month of July 2016
- A specific product has not been identified and the investigation is ongoing
- The Texas DSHS suspects these illnesses are foodborne and likely a fresh produce item but are looking at all possible exposures
