“I was an Animal Science major in college and planned to get a job in the animal production industry. But I graduated during a recession and at a time when red meat was suddenly considered unhealthy. Since there were no jobs in my industry, I took a job with the California Kiwifruit Commission, a marketing board established to promote a newly introduced fruit called kiwifruit. Everything about the fresh produce industry was exciting: the colors, the textures, the flavors. Needless to say, I was hooked. Thirty-two years later, I have no regrets. I have enjoyed the relationships, the excitement, and most of all being in an industry that delivers nourishment and delight every day!”
“As a young child, my grandmother had a garden in our backyard and while she was cooking, she would ask me to go pick jalapenos, tomatoes, and squash. That garden made a big impression on me and my life. I believe that is where my passion for food and fellowship developed. On Sundays our family would gather at my grandparents’ home to eat and laugh. I believe that no matter what happens in life there is no better feeling than gathering around the dinner table with your family and friends.”
