“I was six- or seven-years-old when my sister told me the truth about watermelon seeds. You see, those little white seeds are not good for you if you are under 13, she told me. Once you’re older, you can eat them and you’ll be fine. But, if you dare eat them when you are under 13 years old, a watermelon will grow in your stomach. And so began my fascination with fruits. Imagine, a watermelon growing inside of you! What other craziness could come from fruits and vegetables? To this day, anytime I work with watermelon, I make sure to pick out those little white seeds. Just in case.”
“As a young child, my grandmother had a garden in our backyard and while she was cooking, she would ask me to go pick jalapenos, tomatoes, and squash. That garden made a big impression on me and my life. I believe that is where my passion for food and fellowship developed. On Sundays our family would gather at my grandparents’ home to eat and laugh. I believe that no matter what happens in life there is no better feeling than gathering around the dinner table with your family and friends.”
